The story
behind Hoofcount
The Hoofcount footbath was first developed and launched in the UK market in 2012.
Designed to be straightforward and easy to run, it’s now well known across the UK as the market leader in effective, reliable footbathing. With very few moving parts, once installed, it should operate smoothly with minimal issues.
As standard, we offer two main footbath sizes. However, because all manufacturing is done in house, we can provide a fully custom service when needed — particularly useful on robot systems where space comes at a premium.
Every footbath is crafted from start to finish in our expanding Lancashire workshops. As a family business, we’re proud of the care that goes into each build and of the close connections we share with farmers worldwide.
We’ve shipped footbaths worldwide, and we’re proud to share that as of 2026, Hoofcount now reaches 5 out of 7 continents.
Although the footbath was primarily designed for cattle, we can also design and build footbaths specifically for sheep.

The Invention
behind Hoofcount
The Hoofcount Footbath is simple to operate and can be set up to suit your preferred routine. It can run on cow counting, a timer, or manual mode. With our moving spray bar, you’re guaranteed that the bath is washed thoroughly from top to bottom. Chemical concentration can be set to your desired percentage, along with the specific days you want it added. The two chemical pumps also allow you to use different chemicals on different days, reducing the need for manual handling.
We are continually developing our products through ongoing research and innovation, ensuring our systems stay at the forefront of hoof care technology. This commitment to improvement led to the creation of PediVue — our advanced hoof‑monitoring camera system designed to give farmers clearer insight into hoof health and early lameness detection.
The method
behind Hoofcount
Every Hoofcount footbath is manufactured in the UK, from the first fold to final assembly.
Cost of Lameness
Lameness in the dairy herd is a significant welfare problem and leads to:
- Loss of milk production
- Decreased fertility
- Poor longevity
- Increased trimming costs
- Extra unnecessary labour
With many costs hidden, studies still show that the minimum cost of lameness in a 100‑cow dairy herd is £4,000 (€5,500) per year.*
Effective footbathing with the Hoofcount Automatic Footbath reduces lameness and prevents unnecessary costs.
Hoofcount recommends footbathing as a key part of a consistent lameness management routine.

Our products
Standard
Footbath
The Standard Footbath is up to 3m long and 800 mm (internal) wide. It provides two dips per hoof and is mostly used in smaller herds, often paired with robotic systems.
Excel
Footbath
The Excel Footbath is up to 3.7 m long and 600 mm (internal) wide. It allows three dips per hoof and is well suited to larger herds of 200+, particularly on the exit of rotary systems. It features strong stainless‑steel side sheets that help keep chemical in the bath and prevent cows from stepping on the sides.
Robot
Footbath
All baths are custom built to suit your space. As space is often at a premium on robot farms, we recommend the Standard bath. Footbath requirements depend on robot numbers and layout, and many head‑to‑head farms install a single bath on the exit race.
